AT&T iPhone update eligibility

A Monday? Are you crazy? Mobile Crunch is speculating that AT&T might be getting the next revision to Apple’s iPhone around June 21st as a result of some recent changes to current iPhone 3GS owners’ upgrade eligibilities.

Remember last year when Apple announced the iPhone 3GS? AT&T didn’t intend to allow iPhone 3G owners to upgrade to the iPhone 3GS at the advertised (reduced) price. After much unhappiness, they relented and allowed iPhone 3G early adopters to get the upgrade price they wanted. Well, fast forward to now. Looks like AT&T might be preparing to avoid that happening again by just moving back the upgrade eligibilities for current iPhone 3GS owners. Mobile Crunch is reporting that some users have seen their earliest upgrade eligibility date move from November of this year, to June 21st, thus the picture above.

Now, I don’t think anyone has a hard time believing that Apple’s going to be releasing their next generation of iPhone sometime in the next couple of months. And I honestly don’t think it’s that important to guess the date right now, but I’m betting it ain’t June 21st. If I had to put money on it, I’d say June 25th. Why? Apple has always released iPhones on a Friday. It just makes more sense. It’s easier for your average American to make it to the store on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I’d say AT&T is just being safe here and moving the dates back to avoid any potential problems.

  1. 6/21/10 will be the release of the iPhone 4 OS for users that have the 3G and 3GS models… the actual phone will be released Friday, the 25th of June

  2. It sounds more like the uses are being primed to upgrade. IE get them pumped about upgrading prior to release date so they could either purchase the older version at a bigger discount or the new hd iphone. The memo has nothing to do with iphone release date. if you get everyone set to upgrade on the release date that would be kaos. It makes more sense to get people excited prior to release date.
