AT&T vs. Verizon

Want to cancel your AT&T iPhone plan? Are you waiting to see if we get a Verizon iPhone this June? If so, that may not be a good idea for you or your wallet. According to the Wall Street Journal, as reported by MacRumors, AT&T will soon raise their early termination fee from $175 to $325. As if these weren’t already a ripoff, it appears that AT&T wants to takes as much money as they can from people before they leave. That said, keep in mind that Verizon, too, upped the price for their early terminations a while back to $350.

Whether this is in anticipation of the iPhone losing its exclusivity with AT&T remains to be seen. For one, no date is known on when this change will occur, so it could even be after the possible iPhone announcement this June. Furthermore, we don’t even know if AT&T will be losing iPhone exclusivity this June, either. Lastly, as mentioned above, this may just be in response to Verizon upping their early termination prices. Regardless, this eventual increase in charges is bound to make people unhappy no matter what their reason is for wanting to leave AT&T.

  1. Not totally true… Verizon's change only covers new contracts as my droid still carries a $175 early termination fee.

Honestly though, my droid is rooted and has wifi tethering on it so I don't really see a need to switch the phone anytime soon and 2.2 makes that even more of a lock. The truth is, comparing my iPad to my android 2.1 device really leaves me feeling the difference between the two operating systems and I sincerely hope Apple either smartens up or somebody gets an android based tablet to market really soon.
