WalMart continues its aggressive “rollback” pricing with its lowest iPhone price offer yet. Starting today, the 16GB iPhone 3GS is selling new for only $97. That’s a savings of $100, but you’ll still need to buy into AT&T’s 2-year contract, of course (and their inflated termination fees). Also note that this is an online price, but you can’t actually buy the phone online. “In-store prices vary from online prices” WalMart.com warns, so you’ll need to head to your local store to find out what your actual savings will be.
Of the sale, Mehrdad Akbar—senior category director wireless at Walmart—said, “At Walmart we stand for the best prices on the brands and products customers want. As it is our commitment to always lead on price, we are going to reduce the price on this most popular Smartphone so our customers can realize these new savings as soon as possible.”
That’s as may be, but considering we’re likely only a couple of weeks away from the announcement of a new iPhone 4G at WWDC 2010, Apple fans can hope this is also WalMart’s attempt to clear out their inventory.
Regardless, if you don’t need the latest and greatest model, this is a pretty fantastic deal.
