Apple Bumpers
The main topic that came from yesterday’s opening WWDC Keynote was of course, the new Apple iPhone 4. In addition to this, Steve Jobs made an announcement that Apple would be shipping their first iPhone case for the new device, to be called Bumpers. In the “heat of the moment,” the iPhone cases were pushed to one side, but let’s quickly return back to see just what the deal is.

Bumpers are not cases or skins, they’re more, well, literally, bumpers. They protect the aluminum edges of the iPhone in molded plastic and rubber, with metal in place for the volume buttons. They don’t directly protect either the front or back of the iPhone, both of which are made from strengthened glass. Still, with the added protection around the circumference of the device, the case should be able to absorb a little more energy when dropped, although I personally wouldn’t like to try it.
Bumpers will be available in six colors; white, black, blue, green, orange, and pink to add a “a touch of style to any iPhone 4,” as the Apple website itself puts it. The Bumpers will be available with the iPhone 4 on June 24th for $29.99.
