Using your iDevice as a universal remote sounds like a great idea, right? The only problem is that solutions thus far have been expensive. Not anymore. Ryz Media has an app and hardware combo that totals $9.99. Yeah, less than ten bucks. That’s so crazy it might just work.

Before I go on, check out the promo video; it’s pretty cool.

Excited yet? I know I am.

My TV Remote appThe whole process is simple. You download the app, and then make an in app purchase to activate IR. This single purchase actually gets you the hardware (shipping included), too. I’m still amazed at that price point. Similar products are going for significantly more money. But wait, there’s more…

The app comes complete with an EPG (electronic program guide) and social media integration. You could actually download this app just for the program guide. You can even keep track of what your friends are watching (provided they log into Facebook and also use this app) or what’s popular in your area. And what’s really cool is that you can download the app for free to try it out a bit before you drop any cash. Actually, you have to download the app before buying the hardware. Brilliant.

I think Ryz Media has some great potential here for an awesome app and hardware combo. It’s such an great price point for this feature set, and I’m very excited to see how well it can hold up against the competitors. More to come…

I had trouble when i first installed it but removing and reinserting the ir device in the headphone jack fixed it and opened an exciting world of possibilities. I love having the current tv listings in my hand instead of annoying others watching tv. Im still playing and figuring it out but so far its the best $10 i spent all month
