The idea of having your iPad stolen is rage inducing. After all, you paid a lot of money for that device. Loss of the physic device, however, should not be your real concern; it’s loss of your personal data that should keep you up tossing and turning at night. Think about it; if someone steals your iPad, he has instant access to your email. He has a list of all of the sites you visit, and possibly even your passwords. (I hope you never used your iPad to check the balance on your bank account.)

If you want to sleep easily, you need to know your data will be erased if your system is stolen. How can you do that? By enabling automatic data erasing on your iPad. 10 missed password attempts and the system is erased, but still not unlocked. Want to know how to enable erasing? Then just follow these steps.

  1. Tap the Settings icon on the home screen
  2. Tap on “General”
  3. Tap on “Passcode Lock”
set passcode
  1. Set a code if you have not already done so
  2. Tap Turn Passcode On
  3. Slide the bar on “Erase Data” to “On”

Now, all you have to do is not forget your passcode.
