Apple Press Event

According to a Brazilian publication entitled MacMagazine, a “reliable source within Apple” has informed them of an iPod press event that is to take place in mid-August. This event would detail the iOS 4 updates for iPad, a potential refresh of the iPod Touch hardware, and perhaps even some information about Apple’s remaining clickwheel iPod lines that have fallen by the wayside in this touch interface era. While the source didn’t give an exact date, we can assume it will most likely be around August 16th or 17th as Apple usually holds their events on Mondays or Tuesdays.

If this rumor is in fact true we can certainly expect some exciting announcements coming out of Cupertino’s next event. The iPod Touch is now a revision behind the iPhone in terms of hardware and there are certainly plenty of rumors as to what the next iPod Touch will contain.Furthermore, Apple’s clickwheel iPods (Nano, Classic) haven’t seen an update in quite some time. It will be interesting to see if Apple plans to keep those lines around considering the movement towards fully touch based interfaces. That said, I believe these versions have at least one more hardware revision in them. The Classic is still necessary for people who want to carry their entire collection around and the Nano is great for people who don’t necessarily want to move to touch based devices yet.

Any way you look at it, this event will be exciting no matter when it actually comes.
