Moshi Muse iPad CaseProvides: iPad protection

Now that the iPad has been out for a while, trends are starting to develop with its accompanying accessories. This is most noticeable in cases, which are proving to be as simple and elegant as the device itself. A good example of this is Moshi’s Muse. It’s doesn’t offer much beyond basic protection from scratches and bumps, but it does so with attractive precision.

The first thing you’ll notice about the Muse is its suede-like outer layer. This soft material is comfortable to hold and looks good no matter whether you go with the falcon gray, sahara beige, tyrian purple or zen black designs. Each color scheme includes an alternately colored flap that not only provides a nice duotone effect (aside from the purple model, which features a gray flap) but that also holds the iPad securely inside the case. The flap closes down with magnets to keep the entire iPad covered. You’d think this would be an obvious feature, but many iPad case developers will leave one portion of the iPad (usually the top) open and unprotected.

The inside of the case is lined with Moshi’s Terahedron microfiber material. Not only does this provide a soft, scratch free environment, but it will also clean the iPad’s screen…a little bit. Fingerprint smudges won’t magically disappear, but sliding the iPad into the Muse will wipe away the more superficial dust particles and such.

Behind the flap and just under the iPad opening is another pouch for storing adapters and cables. The tight design and stitching of the Muse doesn’t provide a lot of give, however, so your cables will have to be fairly thin. The iPad’s wall plug will fit in there, but not without creating an unsightly bump and preventing other items from fitting in the pocket. If you plan to travel with a decent number of accessories, plan on packing them somewhere else.

In fact, that’s likely the best way to use this case. With no means of carrying it aside from gripping the edge, the Muse pretty much begs to be thrown into a book bag or larger iPad case. When in class or around the house, however, the Muse is attractive enough to leave your iPad lying on a counter, knowing it’s safe from the cat, kids and the greasy fingers of curious dinner guests. Then, when you want it, the iPad is easy to get in and out.

At only $30, it’s very easy to recommend the Moshi Muse for the majority of iPad users. There are cases out there that offer better protection and functionality, but if your main use of the iPad is in the classroom or around the house, Moshi designed this for you.
