Boxee has been an awesome service to use if you want to get easy access to full length TV shows from networks across the web. Along with having a great interface, Boxee even has their own set top box and payment system. All that said, access to TV shows all that Boxee really offered…until now. This week, Boxee is adding a new feature to their platform called Movie Library.
Movie Library will give Boxee users access to thousands of movies across the web. As of launch, their partners include EZTakes, Indie Movies Online, MUBI* and Openfilm. Boxee is still working on adding more films, partners, etc, to make this part of their platform just as good as the rest.
A recap from their blog mentions the following:
Boxee now has a movie library
it has thousands of movies from multiple sources
the movie library has titles available for users around the globe
we’re still making tweaks (images, film count, etc.)
we’ll be adding more movies and services soon
In terms of adding another way to get access to content and perhaps take even serving as another strike at cable, As with Apple’s rumored $0.99 iTunes TV show rentals this is yet another way to get access to digital entertainment and is one more strike at cable. I’m sure Apple’s September 1st press event will bring even more.
