Today, Target officially confirmed the rumor that they will start carrying iPads in October. As of October 3rd, you’ll be able to pick up a WiFi iPad in all capacities, but only one (unknown) capacity WiFi + 3G iPad. You can already get an iPad from Best Buy or any Apple Store, but Target can only help sales of this netbook killer we know and love.
Here’s the news in it’s entirety from Yahoo! Finance:
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Target Corp. says it will begin carrying four models of Apple Inc.’s iPad, starting at $499.
The nation’s second-largest discount chain says it will start selling touchscreen tablet computer starting Oct. 3.
The models include 16-, 32-, and 64-gigabyte models, as well as the Wi-Fi + 3G model.
The announcement was made at Target’s media conference in Minneapolis, where it is based.
I’m left wondering which capacity of WiFi + 3G iPad Target will carry. Since it’s an expensive gadget for a store like Target, I’d have to assume the lowest capacity, 16GB, but then again, if you’re willing to pay a premium for 3G service, are you really interested in the lowest model?
I have to believe Apple’s recent stock surges are in great part thanks to the incredible reception of the iPad. It will be interesting to see if Target can help that even more. It will also be interesting to see how long it will take before Apple refreshes the iPad. It feels a bit old to me. Almost a year. Time for a new one.
