Expect the Apple server to become busy any minute now. Or perhaps it is already. The reason? What else but iOS 4.2, which just became available for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. Hopefully, by the time I’m through writing this piece, I can still manage to get it and install on my iOS devices. It’s going to be a long night for my MacBook Pro…I need to update two iPads, two iPhones and one iPod Touch 4th Gen.
In case you’re still wondering whether you should update, debate no more—you should. Apple iOS 4.2 is bringing tons of good stuff for your iOS devices, mainly to your iPad. Apple gave a rundown of these new features via the official press release: multitasking, folders, unified inbox for mail app, Game Center for iPad, Airprint and Airplay for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
Another new feature? Find my iPhone (or iPad or iPod Touch) has just became free to use even if you don’t subscribe to MobileMe. This is by way of a free app which allows you to locate your missing iOS device. The app also lets you control your iOS device and lets it display a message, play a sound, and even remotely lock or wipe data from your iOS device.
iOS 4.2 also gives the iPad the ability to rent TV episodes directly to iPad via iTunes. You can view these episodes within a 30 day viewing window and within 48 hours once you’ve started playing it on your iPad. Other features include enhanced enterprise support, new device management capabilities, improved enterprise integration, and support for 25 additional languages.
That’s it. Now is the right time to get iOS 4.2 for all your iOS devices. Have fun folks!
[Note:] The update is not showing up yet for my iPhone 4. Anyone had luck getting the update?
