If you’re itching for some iPad version 2 rumors, well, sit tight because you’re about to get some. According to “one reliable Taiwanese newspaper,” the device will be released in the first quarter of 2011 and will have two cameras, a USB port, and new display and touch technology. Additionally, our sources are saying the iPad 2 will have a faster, dual core processor.
Sadly, there aren’t a ton of details to help flesh out these rumors other than the iPad 2 is scheduled to go into production this month. That would imply all of the details of the device are already written in stone.
Since we don’t have any more details, I’m forced to speculate. It’s probably safe to assume there will be one front and one back facing camera on the new device, similar to iPhone 4. A USB port could be quite handy. This would likely eliminate the need for the camera connection kit, except perhaps if you want to directly connect an SD card. A USB port would also make iPad 2 an even easier choice as a notebook replacement. The only comment I’m willing to make on a new display or touch technology is that I’m hoping the Retina Display makes its way onto the iPad, though I expect that would really increase the price. So, it’s hard to say which direction Apple will go with that. It’s highly unlikely we’ll be seeing a 7 inch iPad, though, as Steve Jobs pretty much shot that one down.
Just to add some more rumors into the mix, I’ve heard from our sources that iPad 2 will have a faster processor, possibly a dual core at 1.2GHz. The iPad 2 could also have two dock connectors to make docking in both Landscape and Portrait orientations possible.
Rumors are to be taken with a grain or so of salt, but I think it’s safe to say we won’t have to wait too long to find out which of these rumors turn out to be trumors. I’d expect to see another special event from Apple sometime in January to talk about iPad.
