NAVIGON opens up the Macworld Expo 2011 with a couple of nice announcements. The first is an iPhone Car Kit, and the second is improved traffic and routing info.

The NAVIGON iPhone Car Kit is designed to easily hold the iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4 so that it will reduce driver distraction and position the iPhone for better GPS reception by fixing it to the windshield. NAVIGON wants to put the focus on the iPhone and not on seeing the cradle itself. “The iPhone is the most elegant smartphone available, therefore a mount should never get in the way of showcasing the design,” said Gerhard Mayr, vice-president worldwide mobile phones & new markets, NAVIGON. It also includes a car charger and extra long 5 foot long dock cable so that the battery does not drain while being used for guidance. The new car kit will sell for $49.99 with free shipping, but is available at an introductory price of $44.99 until Feb. 3, 2011.

NAVIGON has also announced that they will be using INRIX to provide more comprehensive traffic information. INRIX uses real time traffic feeds and will allow NAVIGON to give you more routing options around congested areas thanks to a 76% increase in road coverage. The increased coverage includes far more secondary and local roads, which should allow for quicker and more accurate detours. The new traffic feed is automatically available to users of the NAVIGON Traffic Live feature.
