Many die-hard Apple fans who have been supportive of the company for the last few decades will likely remember its famous “1984” ad, which had first aired and introduced the first Macintosh during Super Bowl XVIII on January 22, 1984. The 1984 ad has been widely regarded as one of the most memorable and successful American television commercials ever, as it was an important symbol of fighting conformity (considered to be IBM at the time).
Of course much has changed today, and Apple has seemingly become what they had portrayed as Big Brother in their own ad, or at least Motorola thinks so. In a new ad for the Motorola Xoomm which is due to air this Sunday during Super Bowl XLV, Motorola will be making fun of Apple’s 1984 ad and iPhone fan base while showing off its Xoom to the Super Bowl television audience.
Below, you can watch Apple’s original 1984 ad followed by a preview of Motorola’s new ad. You can catch the full thing should you choose to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday.
