The iPhone Facebook app has been one of the most popular since its introduction to the App store. Today, it’s been updated to v3.5, bringing features many have been seeking for months.
Previously, Facebook users would have to log into Facebook.com in their browser in order to change settings or share externals link, but those practically prehistoric days are now far behind us. Facebook has also added groups and walls, onscreen navigation and UI enjoyed by users of the desktop Web version. The most important update is perhaps sharing external links; yes, you can finally do it. So, even though you still have to go to the website to actually make any changes, at least now you can start the process from the app.
Along with letting users share external links with a single push of a button, it also lets you tag your friends in your post right from your iPhone and iPod Touch. Facebook has also implemented a new look and feel, namely the profile and group walls, which look slightly less cluttered now.
There are a few other slight changes that were made—such as more privacy controls—that are similar to those recently updated on Facebook’s website. In comparison with the web version of Facebook, it’s now possible for you to choose that you want to post to some fixed friends or to all.
Apart from that, the new Facebook for iPhone app comes with an assortment of bug fixes ranging from Facebook Chat to bugs encountered while viewing pictures and albums. Slight performance improvements are an added plus.
As a quick recap, here are the major updates to Facebook v3.5 for iOS:
- Added the ability to tag friends and places in posts
- Added the ability to share external links from a web view
- Added new design for Profile and Group Walls
- Improved the sharing tool to add privacy controls on posts and match your settings on the web site
