A few weeks ago Appletell previewed some of the upcoming Thunderbolt accessories, including an external hard drive from LaCie called Little Big Disk. At the time, this was still in development, but thankfully the wait is over and it’s now available at the Apple Store in both HDD and SSD models.

Just remember to buy Apple’s Thunderbolt cable, which comes separately and costs $49.

Both the HDD and SSD models come configured in RAID 0 (RAID 1 and JBOD capable) with the HDD models reaching speeds of 190 MB/s and the SSD models getting 634 MB/s. They have two Thunderbolt connectors which enable you to connect them together for even higher transfer speeds, up to 870 MB/s. While they are light (1.4 pounds/0.64 kilograms) and small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, they also require being plugged in as they need more power than can be delivered via the Thunderbolt cable.

LaCie’s Little Big Disk’s HDD models come in two sizes, 1 TB HDD for $399.95 and 2 TB HDD for $499.95. The SSD models come in two sizes, 240 GB SSD for $899.95 and the 500 GB SSD for $1,499.95.
