art4artdesign’s paintbox Xmas is a free painting program and drawing app with a focus on Christmas to encourage children to use their own fantasy and creativity. Depending on the painting pattern, each Xmas-story can be individually painted or expressed.
This application will appeal especially to parents who prefer to encourage their children to use their imagination rather than depend on ready-made painting patterns.
Note: paintbox also exists in a non-Christmas-version which includes more templates for creative drawing.
Painted pictures can be sent via email, printed or stored in your picture gallery. The Xmas-Version delivery set includes 12 painting patterns on Christmas themes.
paintbox Xmas is intuitively simple to use. Several small extras, such as a musical scale on painting tools, round out this app.

- If your last image stores

Children’s educational app developer So Ouat is offering an updated release of Christmas Eve, a learning experience for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. Designed for ages 3 to 10, this app is intended to spark the spirit of Christmas and capture the magic of Santa Claus and his elves. The universal version of Christmas Eve is available free through the end of 2011.
This festive installment in So Ouat’s award-winning line of interactive storybooks features atractive artwork and charming animations that bring the magic of Santa Claus right to young folks’ fingertips. Both on-screen text and audio narration are included, so children can have the story read to them or read it on their own.
In addition, this enhanced HD version of Christmas Eve includes interactive learning features such as touch pronunciation (touch a word to hear it spoken), “explain to me” (a word’s definition and its opposite are given, to provide context for unfamiliar words), “show me” (an illustration displays to represent a word), and “Karaoke reading” (a fun tool that helps children learn to read the story themselves). All of these features are accessed with an intuitive, easy-to-use touch interface optimized for small fingers.
It’s Christmas Eve and Nina and her family are decorating their Christmas tree. As Nina hangs a decoration on the tree, she overhears her mother saying that it’s been a while since she believed in Santa Claus. Nina, with the help of her little brother Jeremy, decides to prove to their mother that Santa really does exist.
This version includes full English and French localizations. Chinese language will be added in January.
Christmas Eve is free and available through the App Store in the Books category.
