The Sims FreePlay

This week on the Free Apps Roundup: How about we fill your iOS device with games? Soccer fans are in for a treat; Real Soccer 2012 is just out and it’s full of new features to make the game even more fun and realistic. If soccer isn’t your thing, maybe controlling an entire city is more your style. EA is back with another Sims game. And there’s much more…

  • The Sims FreePlay – Hey, remember the Sims? Apparently, they still make Sims games. Who knew? Well, this game lets you create up to 16 fully customized Sims. You get to design your dream home, plant a garden, take care of pets, and more. The Sims even live in real-time along with you. You’re even in control of the whole town. You can build car dealerships, pet stores and supermarkets! Just think of all the responsibility you can have. Don’t abuse it. Or do. It’s just a game for iPhone and iPad. And a free one at that.
  • SkyDrive – Microsoft would like to give you some cloud storage space. They’d like you to access your files with your iDevice from anywhere you have an internet connection. If you already have a Hotmail, Messenger or Xbox LIVE account, you don’t even need to set up a new account. Try it out; you might even like it.
  • Real Soccer 2012 – It’s back for another season with new features. Now you can recreate the soccer game you just watched on TV and then play to see how you would have done. You can now create custom team jerseys, shorts and more, then share the designs with the online community. And, of course, you’ll get even smoother and more realistic graphics. There are now over 700 motion-capture-based animations to really make the game look great. Combine that with some new effects and cutscenes and you’ll feel like you’re playing on TV.
  • Mad Tracks – Miniature Motorized Mayhem. That’s what they call it anyway. It’s a mini car racer with colorful 3D environments, special power-ups and wild acrobatics. There’s an online multiplayer component that lets you play against up to 3 other players online or locally. There’s unlockable content to keep you playing, and coming soon there will be downloadable content packs in case you’re really digging it.
  • Netflix – While it’s not a new app by any means, Netflix updated their iPad app with a new UI, amongst other more minor updates. Is it enough to bring their user base back? Probably not.
  • Marathon 2: Durandal – Seventeen years ago, you saved humanity. Since then, you’ve been in stasis. Since you’re awake now, you can probably bet that humanity needs you again. The Pfhor are back. In all seriousness though, there are 28 levels in nine chapters. There’s enough here to keep you busy for a while. Thank Bungie, not me.
  • Edge – Free for a limited time, this puzzle game is a challenge to say the least. You play as a cube. Yep, a cube. You’re in a race to make it to the end, but being that you are a cube, there are some rules that you have to obey that you wouldn’t normally have to. Try it out.
  • Frontline Commando – Just like every great Hollywood hero, you are a one man army. You’re the sole surviving commando who’s going to take down a ruthless dictator. The game is a 3rd person shooter with pretty awesome graphics. This universal game is free for a limited time so download it now.
  • Monopoly Here and Now The World Edition – This version of Monopoly is free for today only. As if you didn’t have enough editions of Monopoly already. At least you can get this one for free.
  • Monopoly Here and Now The World Edition for iPad – Here’s the iPad version, which is also free for today only.
  • Monkey Island Tales 1 – The Launch of the Screaming Narwhal is now free for a limited time. This LucasArts / Telltale game has won numerous awards already, so if you’re going to want to download it. Whether you’re a Monkey Island fan already or are just soon to be, it’s your lucky day.
