iRig PRE

IK Multimedia has announced their newest addition to their already growing line of iRig adapters, the iRig PRE. It’s a high quality microphone preamp that connects your favorite studio mics to your iOS device. This adapter is the first of its kind, taking a standard XLR connector and plugging it straight into the headphone port of your iOS device. You can expect to see it pop up in early Q2 2012 for $39.99.

The iRig PRE looks a lot like the other iRig gear you’ve come to know. It’s a small dongle that connects to your iOS device through the headphone port. On the dongle, there’s a single XLR connection a headphone output and a gain control. All of this is made possible via the 9V battery inside, which provides the necessary juice for dynamic or phantom powered studio condenser mics.

As always, the iRig PRE can easily be used with two free apps from IK Multimedia. iRig Recorder is an easy to use recording and editing app, perfect for recording your voice. VocaLive is an effects processing app that’ll make your singing voice sound even better than before.

iRig PRE looks to be an excellent choice for anyone wanting to connect their existing microphone into their iOS devices. Its portability is an added bonus.
