After spending months developing Steam for mobile platforms iOS and Android, it appears Valve is now almost complete in that development. Steam Mobile, the iOS/Android counterpart of the widely popular Windows/OS X Steam software, is now available for free on the App Store as well as the Android Market.
Unfortunately, downloading the app from the App Store or Market won’t guarantee you’ll be able to use it right away, as Valve has currently labelled the app as being in closed beta status for now. Trying to log in with an account that is not a part of the beta will fail, and will only greet the user with a notification that Valve will be “sending out more invites shortly.”
For those who are in the closed beta, the Steam Mobile app brings a lot of the desktop app’s cool features into the mobile world. Among these features are the ability to chat with Steam contacts, stay up to date with gaming news and Steam’s occasional sales, and browse groups and user profiles. Of course, there is a lot more to it, and likely a lot more coming as well once the app comes out of its closed beta status.
If you’re not in the Steam Mobile closed beta but would like to be in the near future, go ahead and download the app and attempt to log in with your Steam so that you can get in on an upcoming wave of invites.
