Shazam PlayerThis week on the Free Apps Roundup: Can’t tell what the song you’re listening to is trying to say? It can be difficult. That’s why Shazam is back with a new app to add information to your music. Shazam Player will stream the lyrics straight to your device, so you can finally know what Fall Out Boy is saying. In addition, Steam released their beta mobile app, and I found a number of great limited time freebies to keep your device brimming with apps.

Free:

  • Shazam Player – Shazam is likely the app you already use to identify songs automatically with just a few seconds of recorded audio. Shazam’s new app promises to show you the lyrics to all of the music on your iOS device just by using the app. Thanks to LyricPlay, the lyrics just stream straight to your device. Additionally, you can use the app to find songs and clips on YouTube, create playlists of your own music, and more.
  • Steam Mobile – No, you can’t play games with it. But you can participate in the Steam community with this social app. You can browse groups and user profiles, read gaming news and even buy games you can’t play on your iOS device anyway. One caveat is that you need to be in the beta to actually get this app to do anything for you. So, if you’re interested, download it and sign up for the beta. Then hold your breath.
  • TouchTV – Want to try the first TV app for iPad? Then download this app. It’s supposed to give you access to 40 or the top 45 TV channels. The only thing is that it’s billed as “snack-sized” content or highlights. So, you won’t be getting live TV, but hey, it’s something.

Free for a limited time:

  • Rock Prodigy: Guitar – Many people dream of being able to rock out on a guitar. But it’s not exactly a simple task to just pick up a guitar and start playing. This app teaches you how. You’ll learn the basics, notes, chords and some more advanced techniques. It will teach you songs you’ve heard before, all you have to do is choose the ones you want to play (and pay for them). This intro app will teach you some basics and help you decide if you want to throw a little money at more.
  • Mystery Ball – FRED needs your help. He’s scared of heights, plus he’s lost his memory. But FRED can learn and collect bravery badges by solving physics based puzzles. There are 30 worlds to keep you entertained.
  • Panorama 360 Camera – Panoramas are cool, but piecing them together by hand isn’t fun. This app does it all for you with the gyroscope on the inside of your compatible iOS device. Just hit the button and slowly pan around the whole scene that you’d like to make into a panorama. That’s it. It’s an app every iOS device with a camera should have installed.
  • AcePlayer – iOS is great for a plethora of reasons, but it can’t play back just any old video you throw at it. This app changes that. It supports just about any video or audio format you can find. You can get media to it through iTunes, Wi-Fi transfers, URLs, UPnP, FTP and Samba. The app makes it dead simple to open files found in other apps by supporting the “Open In” feature of iOS. It supports TV out and even AirPlay (as long as you’re using the QuickTime plugin). Basically, it does everything, so stop reading the features list and download it.
  • Pentaballs HD – Tic Tac Toe was fun in grade school, but it just isn’t fun anymore. Don’t worry, though, this game takes the original idea and expands upon it. Instead of connecting three markers, you’ll be connecting five marbles. Each turn you get to place a marble and rotate one of the four squares on the board. You’ll have to think ahead if you want to win. Heck, you’ll need to think a lot just to make sure your moves aren’t beneficial to your opponent.
  • SkySafari 3 – Once again, SkySafari 3 is free on the App Store. This time they are celebrating Macworld Expo. This app has a catalog of over 120,000 stars and 220 of the best known clusters, nebulae, and galaxies in the sky. It does all the fun tricks you’ve come to expect from an app of this kind. If you really love the app, you can upgrade to a version with even more features.
