Trying to decide between a quad-core or eight-core Mac Pro? MacWorld recently ran a multitude of benchmarks on both machines, showing slight gains in applications like Adobe Photoshop CS3, Cinema 4D and Compressor.

The quad-core machine did stand its ground in the iMovie and Unreal Tournament 2004 tests, but more intriguing is the Power Mac G5 that managed to beat both the Intel towers at an iTunes MP3 encode. I’m suspecting that iTunes is not a heavily threaded application.
