Carrier competition in China will likely start heating up now that China Telecom will be getting the iPhone 4S on March 9th. China Telecom will be the second carrier in China to offer the iPhone, as China Unicom has been doing so since 2009.
China Telecom runs a CDMA network while China Unicom runs the more standard GSM network. This would have made it more troublesome for Apple to partner with China Telecom before the iPhone 4S became the first model able to run on both CDMA and GSM networks.
China Telecom will be offering the 16 GB iPhone 4S for free on a two-year contract once it becomes available for reservation on March 2nd.
