AT&T Deathstar

Many people who stood in line at AT&T stores on Friday have reported that AT&T employees were “forcing” them to buy additional accessories for their iPhone. Apparently AT&T employees are supposed to sell between $60-$65 worth of phone accessories for each phone purchased or else they could be “written up”. Some of the employees assumed this applied to iPhone purchases as well, and were targeting the customers while they were stuck in line. They had a captivated audience–at least at the stores.

Stories of AT&T’s bad service and horrible store experiences spread across the internet, and today, AT&T has finally apologized for the behavior of their employees. As of today they are offering refunds for all the accessories that customers were forced to purchase out of their own will.

Despite the action AT&T is taking to resolve this issue, stories like this are what taint AT&T’s reputation. Already people are reporting that AT&T regional managers had bets on who would sell the most accessories. Doesn’t sound like a good business practice to me.
