When the iPhone was announced with Cingular, now the new AT&T, being the sole carrier in the United States, many people, mainly those overseas, began wondering when the iPhone was going to be released and who’s carrier it was going to be on. There have been reports that Vodafone was a strong contender, but Forbes is disagreeing with that claim.
According to Forbes’ sources, Telefonica’s O2 cell provider has won the contract for being the sole carrier in the United Kingdom. There are also reports that T-Mobile has won the contract bidding for having the iPhone in Germany.
The article is claiming that the agreement will be announced shortly and that the iPhone will go on sale in the United Kingdom this fall with other carriers and countries following suit in the beginning of 2008.
