Magic Mouse: Apple’s Mice Sales Double
During the month of November, Apple doubled its mice sales, achieving 10 percent marketshare. This milestone is a first for Apple, and was likely because of the Magic Mouse. The Magic Mouse is a bluetooth mouse with new support for multitouch gestures such as swipe for scrolling and pinch for zoom. The mouse doesn’t have any real buttons, and is one surface using touch sensors. It retails for $69 US.
Using Perian to view AVI, DivX and WMV files in QuickTime
QuickTime on Snow Leopard is better than ever; lighter, faster and better for watching videos. But if QuickTime Player can’t open the movie, what good is it? Perian is a must-have tool that allows QuickTime to play many more formats, including (but not limited to) AVI, DIVX, FLV. An open-source program, it also works in any program that uses QuickTime, so with it you can watch a large number of file formats on Front Row.
Microsoft on iPhone: “We’re still playing catch-up”
It isn’t too often you hear Microsoft praising Apple, or their iPhone. Few may remember this, but the CEO of Microsoft Steve Balmer said in 2007 that, “There’s no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share,” in an interview with USA Today. Recently, Windows Mobile was compared to the iPhone at the Connect! tech summit in London, and much praise was made to the iPhone OS, by Microsoft UK’s Head of Mobility, Phil Moore.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has spoken about Apple in the past, and not all of the things have been positive. However, in this video from TheStreet.com with James Rogers, he says some positive things about the iPhone. He also talks about how he carriers multiple cell phones and technology products to see how compaines are thinking compared to what others (for example, Apple) are thinking, and to figure out what’s good and what’s bad.
Decorate your Christmas tree with Apple products
Instead of decorating your Christmas tree with angels, stars and whatever you usually use, why not decorate your tree with your favourite Apple products? The Apple Store displays are now a lovely tree made of various App icons, with a giant iPhone instead of a star. iPhone Savior news team created iPhone 3GS ornaments, about 3″ x 1.5″. One fanboy didn’t even buy any ornaments, he decided to make his own.
Vodafone to release iPhone January 14th
O2, Orange and Tesco already sell the iPhone in the U.K., and now Vodafone will join them. You can preorder your iPhone now on Vodafone’s website and expect delivery January 14th. Prices for the iPhone on Vodafone’s network will start at £30 a month for a 24 month contract, and customers will have to pay another £59 for the 8GB iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS 32GB model for the top line iPhone.
Opinion: Consider the students before dropping Mac support
The Toronto District School Board (TDSB), the fourth largest school board in North America, will be dropping support for Macs in the classroom. The TDSB argues that the decision to stop supporting Macs largely relates to the cost, and that Macs cost on average 40% more per unit. What the TDSB doesn’t understand is that if you’re going to buy a computer, you don’t just look at the price of the hardware.
Five addictive iPhone, iPod touch games to play on the go
There are plenty of content-rich, in-depth games for the iPhone that will take you hours to complete, and they’re awesome. Then, there are apps that offer the same amount of depth and gameplay, but in shorter bursts. These apps all require no how-to or learning, just a smart player. If you’ve got five minutes to kill, these games for the iPod touch and iPhone will murder those minutes in no time.
Psystar agrees to pay Apple 2.7 million in damages
The what-seems-like-forever 17 month case by Apple against Psystar attempting to sell PCs pre-installed with Mac OS X may have just come to an end. As a result of selling 786 PCs with Mac OS X pre-installed without Apple’s authorization, Psystar will be paying about $1.3 million in damages for copyright infringement, breach of contract and violation of the DMCA, plus an additional $1,337,500 in other damages and legal fees.
