13″ MacBook Pro: Time to say goodbye?
The original 13″ aluminum unibody MacBook Pro form factor, which debuted as a plain MacBook in October 2008, is getting a bit long in the tooth. But sometimes they get things right on the first try. I would argue that the 13″ aluminum unibody is one of the best, if not the best, all-round Apple laptop design(s) ever. If it ain’t broke, why fix it?
Connect to Facebook with the Karotz “smart” rabbit
Facebook is many things to many people. To families, it’s a connection to siblings and parents far away. To schoolmates, it’s a time machine to a time long past. To friends, it’s the destroyer of all things good. But what it’s always been is simply software. Until now. Violet has now turned your Facebook connection into hardware…and a vegetable rabbit, at that.

Apple releases two new AirPort Utility versions
Apple has released two new versions of its AirPort Utility software: version 5.6 and version 6.0. The former is merely a minor update that aims to resolve an issue with network passwords stored in the Keychain, while the latter is a complete redesign of the software to match its iOS counterpart. The reason behind the release of both versions is that AirPort Utility 5.6 is able to support older 802.11g-only base stations, while the more advanced 6.0 version is not.
Checking out two freeware battery health utilities for MacBooks
With my current MacBook closing in on its third birthday, it occurred to me the other day that it might be prudent to check out the condition of the battery. Happily, there are several utilities for doing that, and I downloaded a couple of freeware examples to check out their comparative usefulness, as well as that of the MacBook battery.

Inside Apple by Adam Lashinsky available now
Following the recent success of Walter Isaacson’s biography on former Apple CEO Steve Jobs comes another more corporately-focused book on the company that Jobs co-founded and brought so much success to throughout his adult life. Inside Apple by Adam Lashinsky brings to light Apple’s (and Jobs’ as well, to a lesser extent) business side and how the company operates instead of the personal coverage that Isaacson’s biography brought.
Boxee Live TV Tuner helps you cut the cable
Along with rolling out Boxee version 1.5 to the boxes, you can now get additional content into your Boxee box with the Boxee Live TV tuner. It’s a USB dongle that plugs into the back of your Boxee Box and delivers over the air (OTA) content into your Box, giving you yet another reason to cut the cable (bill). This makes the Boxee Box the first mainstream set top box to deliver over the air and over the top (Internet) content. Try to do that with your Apple TV.
