A promotion has been around since at least 2004 in which Apple offered $100 rebates to customers who purchased a new Mac along with an eligible printer directly through the company. At first, the promotion would continuously renew after each of its three-month cycles. Then, it became a permanent offer more. But as of yesterday Apple has decided to discontinue the program.

Unfortunately, many models by many different manufacturers still don’t, and users with unsupported printers will have to either turn to third-party apps or just live without the feature. Hewlett-Packard, however, has stepped up and added AirPrint support for 8 more of its LaserJet printers.

Macworld 2011: Fujitsu, BulletScan, Neat all want to scan your documents

Document scanning seems to be a hot topic at this year’s Macworld. Many companies are offering solutions to not only quickly scan in all sorts of documents, but to also allow users to more efficiently manage the data on those scanned documents using OCR (optical character recognition). For instance, the solutions from Futijsu, BulletScan, and Neat all offer some ways to get your data into other areas of your computer and the web, whether it be Evernote, Google Docs, or local PDFs. They also aim to do so very quickly, using documents per minute as the main stat to look for if you’re a power user.
