To put that into perspective Xbox Live has been around for about eight years and they have around 30 million users.” This astounding achievement was introduced at the WWDC 2011 keynote along with some changes that will be introduced in iOS 5 when it is released later this year. If you like playing games on your iDevice then the Game Center changes will make finding friends to play with much easier.

Game Center will enable you to see the friends of your friends and the scores of the games they’re playing, which will help you expand your network of gaming allies or opponents. If you need more friends to play games with you’ll also be send and receive receive friend recommendations. Once you see one of them playing a game that you want to try, you can buy it directly from within Game Center.

You’ll also have an easier way of finding new games to play, which is handy because there are so many and more coming out every day, with the new recommendations page. You’ll see featured games as well as all of the games your friends are playing.

There will also be added support for turn-based games in which each player makes a move in turn, such as Scrabble. You’ll be able to check all of your turn-based games at once to see if it’s your turn to play which will be a big time-saver.

Finally, there are other improvements in iOS 5 that will improve your gaming experience. One change is to the App Store where you’ll be able to see all of the apps you’ve purchased, even if they’re not installed on that mobile device. The new notifications will also help as they will appear at the top of the screen rather than in the middle so you won’t be interrupted if you’re in the middle of a tricky fight or challenging puzzle.

All of these changes to the Game Center and iOS 5 will make playing games and finding friends to play with even funner and easier.

See Appletell’s complete Safari Dev Center yesterday. The final release of the new browser will be included with OS X Lion when it releases this fall and will be accompanied by a Windows version, as well.

Among the browser’s new features, Safari 5.1 will support new HTML5 APIs, take advantage of GPU acceleration in the Windows version, allow full-screen web pages, divide plug-ins and the WebKit rendering engine into separate processes to avoid browser crashes, support the latest CSS3 features, and add support for the Web Open Font Format as well as the Mathematical Markup Language (aka MathML).

As with any pre-release software, more features in the final version could possibly surface, although these are definitely plenty already. It is clear that Apple is stepping up against the competition in the field of web browsers, and we can only wait and see how well it performs in comparison to the others once it releases to the public this July.

Via [<a

Unfortunately, Apple has decided to discontinue the $99/year service with iCloud as its replacement, according to a new support document from the company which outlines the details of how the transition over the newer service will take place.

As of June 6th, if you were a paid subscriber to MobileMe, your account has been automatically credited with extended service until June 30, 2012 for free. After that date, MobileMe will be officially discontinued as iCloud completely takes over.

Once the transition between services is complete, all of a subscriber’s emails, contacts, and calendars from MobileMe will be moved over to iCloud and they will be to keep their me.com or mac.com email addresses. However, MobileMe Family, storage upgrades, and the ability to create a new MobileMe account or begin a trial are no longer available. Those who have unused activation codes from the purchase of MobileMe, however, are able to request a refund from Apple from <a

You may recognize the new feature—the “Purchased” button now within the apps—from the WWDC keynote yesterday. Within the App Store, you can find the new button in the Updates tab, while it has become a tab of its own in the iTunes app.

Tapping the Purchased button in the App Store will bring up two tabs: one is a list of every app that a user has purchased, and the other listing just the apps that a user has purchased but are not installed on that particular iDevice. Tapping on the Purchased tab in the iTunes app will instead show a list of all the songs a user has purchased, most recent purchased, and finally a list of every song purchased sorted alphabetically by artist. For both apps, a cloud icon is displayed for content a user has purchased but is not currently available on the particular iDevice, and tapping it download (and install, in the App Store’s case) said content.

This small update, just like Active Downloads, may only be useful for some although it is definitely nice to see some new features without the need for an iOS update.

Via [<a
