Refurb iPhone 3G for $79 from AT&T

We’re days away from the launch of the iPhone 3G S, and AT&T apparently is eager to dump off their stock refurbished iPhone 3Gs (the 3GS moniker vs. plural 3Gs is going to prove confusing for quite a while, huh). On the refurbished cell phone page at AT&T’s website, you can now order a refurbished 8GB with two year contract for $79, and a refurbished 16GB with contract (white only…black is currently out of stock) for only $129.

Where have all the 8GB iPhones gone?

Inventory numbers on the 8GB iPhones are extremely low according to retail sources (via AppleInsider). Now what do you think could be causing this shortage?

Apple often tries to clear out their inventories before launching new products, or upgrades. So, why would Apple let the 8GB model run dry when they only have 8GB and 16GB models to choose from? Either there’s really just a shortage of this model, or Apple is likely prepping for a larger capacity iPhone.

Is 8GB enough for the iPhone 3G?

As we ran our live blog of last Monday’s WWDC Keynote, I couldn’t help but get a little excited about all of the iPhone applications being demoed. This is a bit out of character for me, as I’m a Mac guy, not a gadget guy. In fact, before I finally broke down and bought an 8GB iPhone last autumn, the closest I’d come to a cell phone was using my wife’s Kyocera pay-as-you-go phone through Virgin Mobile.

Now, I’m happy with my iPhone. I’ve made some calls. I’ve even answered some. I’ve texted some friends, photographed some sunrises and followed my real time hockey scores. But, by and large, I get less use out of my iPhone in one week than many of you will in an hour. That’s all about to change, however, with iPhone 2.0 and the App Store. Now, there are programs to use. Information to store. Games to played.

Games.

This got me to thinking…will my 8GB iPhone be enough? Find out after the break.

AT&T starts selling refurbished 16GB iPhone

Now that both U.S. and U.K. online stores have reported depleting stocks of brand new units of the iPhone, here’s you’re chance to snag one for yourself if you haven’t done so, or if you don’t want to wait for the rumored 3G iPhone. AT&T has started offering refurbished units of the 16GB iPhone for more »

Breaking: New 16GB iPhone, 32GB iPod touch models hit the Apple Store

In another case of rumor-becomes-the-truth, Apple has just silently launched the new 16GB iPhone, and 32GB iPod touch via the Apple Store. The new touch line comes in 8, 16, and now 32GB flavors, and the iPhone now comes in 8 and 16GB models. The 16GB iPhone retails for $499, and the 32GB iPod touch more »
