Motorola premieres Xoom’s full 1984 parody ad
As reported earlier, Motorola has created an ad for its Xoom tablet which parodies Apple’s famous 1984 ad. The ad, which was premiered during last night’s Super Bowl XLV, has many striking similarities to Apple’s classic commercial, such as the use of the mindless drones and the notion of fighting conformity. Motorola’s Xoom—a $799 3G 32GB tablet which will be running the Android 3.0 OS—is attempting to rival Apple’s iPad, if that’s not clear enough from the ad itself.
Super Bowl ad to make fun of Apple’s iconic 1984 ad
Apple’s “1984″ ad has been widely regarded as one of the most memorable and successful American television commercials ever, as it was an important symbol of fighting conformity (considered to be IBM at the time). Of course much has changed today, and Apple has seemingly become what they had portrayed as Big Brother in their own ad, or at least Motorola thinks so.
Lee Clow, creative director of Apple ads, steps down
Lee Clow, the chief creative officer at that ad agency that created Apple’s iconic “1984″ ad, as well as the “Think Different” and “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” campaign, has stepped down from his position at TBWA/Media Arts Lab. The Apple account will be in good hands, however, as the new CCO is “Duncan Milner, executive creative director on Apple and a TBWA alum since 1990.”
