[Rumor] Apple to implement faster wireless network specification
The current range of Apple products—such as the Macintosh, AirPort and iOS devices—all utilize the current standard of 802.11n specification, but if rumors pan out we will soon be seeing a new network of 802.11ac chips that would feature better range and power efficiency than the existing chips.
Apple updates Time Capsule and Airport Extreme
Apple has updated their Time Capsules by introducing a 2TB model for $299 and a 3TB model for $499, replacing the 1TB and 2TB models for the same price. Apple has also updated the Airport Extreme, which has improved signal strength with six internal antennas versus the three it had before at the same price of $179.
New iMacs capable of 450 Mbps WiFi
One feature of the newest iMac line-up that Apple hasn’t mentioned and had to be discovered by Hardmac (through a reference in the iMac’s system information) is its improved WiFi, capable of reaching speeds up to an incredible 450 Mbps just like the 2011 MacBook Pro line-up that was introduced with the same capability.
I miss you, Steve Jobs; Apple announcements just aren’t the same
When Apple announced their smorgasbord of product refreshes last week, the first thing I did was order a Mac Mini. Okay, that’s just a reflex, but after that was taken care of, I started to think; something is different, and I don’t like it. I’m fairly certain the source of my mild dissatisfaction with the recent announcements stemmed from the absence of that Steve Jobs touch.
The new Time Capsule and Airport Extreme: first look
Yesterday, Apple somewhat quietly updated both the Time Capsule and Airport Extreme. Most everything stayed the same as previous version with the exception of a few fun details like guest networking and simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi.
AppleTV…Take 3?
The guys over at TG Daily brought up an interesting point today about the AppleTV. Eventually, it will receive a software update, as most Apple products do. But they think the next software update, Take 3, will also bring a hardware revision. The AppleTV has never been the hit that the iPod was or is, but it’s not a failure either. In fact, sales this past quarter have tripled since a year ago. Tim Cook continues to state that the AppleTV is more of a hobby for Apple than anything else, but it’s becoming quite a big hobby for them.
How to share an internet connection with your Mac
Sometimes it’s useful to be able to share a wired internet connection from your Mac to other computers or devices wirelessly. Let’s say you want to browse the internet over WiFi with your iPhone at home, but you don’t want to buy a wireless router yet. Or maybe you have a game console with which you want to play games online, but again, don’t want to buy a router yet. Thankfully, there is an easy way to do this (and a hard way).
Head past the break for both procedures.
Apple: Fix AirDisk Backups. Now
After a recent Firmware Update causing Time Machine preferences to see Hard Disks attached to Airport Extreme Base Stations, many AEBS owners were ecstatic over the Time Capsule-like ability to do wireless backups. But as I personally found out when the Disk refused to mount on the fifth backup, this solution is not fully baked more »
AirPort Extreme users aren’t too happy about Time Capsule
Apple seems to have been changing their ways a bit recently. The iPhone price drop was where it all started. Then they gave us an upgrade to the iPod Touch that we should have had in the first place – but they charge existing customers $20. I’m not sure what’s going on in Cupertino – more »
