Apple takes down NVIDIA update
Funny, I remember there being a MacBook update on Apple’s website last week. If you look there now, instead of an update, you’ll find this message. “We’re Sorry. We can’t find what you’re looking for.” Oh really? Apparently, the update hasn’t done any good, and in some cases caused harm to the notebooks to which it was applied. There are reports of unusual audio problems, screen flickers and it didn’t fix the Dual Link DVI adapter anyway. I’ve had strange display issues since as well. Keep your eyes peeled for another update; I have a feeling it’s on its way.
In the Lap(top) of the Gods: abandoning the iMac for a MacBook
Tomorrow I’ll be leaving the desktop computer behind and joining the throngs of middle management businesspeeps at Starbucks and college students at Pantera Bread (I know, but that’s what I call it) with my laptop computer. Many—if not most—of our readers will be thinking, “What’s the big deal?” You’re right. It shouldn’t be. I’m a man on the move, after all, and I’ve owned laptops before. But those computers supplemented my desktop machine, which is where I produced the bulk of my work and played the bulk of my games. It’s why I never had a problem selling them or trading in the laptops. I just didn’t need them.
Now, I do. As I find myself spending more time away from home, and with Macworld Expo 2009 rapidly approaching, I need to keep my computer with me to stay on top of work. The more powerful and reliable computer technology gets, the more I come to rely on it for common tasks. It’s becoming as integral to my modern lifestyle as my iPhone and my pants. So, it came down to this; can I live without a desktop computer? What are the positives and negatives? Will I suddenly feel the need to Twitter?
It was an agonizing decision, and here are the main issues that made it thus…
Apple Black Friday Savings are out!
Apple’s eagerly awaited Black Friday sales numbers have finally been made public on their website. With savings up to $101 on certain Mac models, these prices aren’t as aggressive as I would’ve liked to see. That said, I’m not going to complain because there are some pretty nice savings on products that Apple usually never more »
iPhone and iPod touch DFU mode DOA in new unibody MacBooks?
For the sake of jailbreakers and certain Dev Teams, we should all hope this is false, but rumor has it that the new unibody aluminum MacBooks cannot recognize the DFU mode required to jailbreak current iPhones and iPod touches. Some users in iPhone and iPod touch forums are reporting that their new laptops will not more »
MacBook video review
Stuff.tv has posted a video review of the new MacBook announced at Tuesday’s Apple Notebook Event, making me jealous not only of their ability to get their hands on one so quickly, but also of the fact that they get to talk about it with British accen.
The general gist of the review is that they’re pleased with the new graphics power, feel that the multi-touch trackpad takes some getting used to and comes across as a “gimmick,” love the new design and case, and aren’t fond of the new prices. Apparently, the MacBook White actually saw a price increase in England, as opposed to being dropped $100 here in the U.S.

Take a peak inside Apple’s new notebooks
I know you. You’ve heard about the new MacBook and MacBook Pro, but that isn’t enough for you. No no, you, my friend, need more. You’ve got to see what’s inside the beast. It’s your lucky day since iFixIt doesn’t mind disassembling one of each of the above Apple notebooks. Sometimes, don’t you just wish you had a job like this guy’s over at iFixIt?
The unboxing, followed by uncasing of the MacBook Pro, contains a comparison of current and last generation models. Both picture sets actually give decent walkthroughs on the features of both machines. Plus, if you ever feel the need to rip apart your new machine, they detail every step they made to take theirs apart.
Apple announces the new MacBook
Today’s Apple MacBook event saw the introduction of the new MacBook along side the new MacBook Pro. They share almost the same feature set, and as rumored, are made with the brick process out of a block of aluminum.
Apple has two models for the new MacBook. Here’s the feature list.
- 2Ghz or 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3 MB L2
- 2 GB of 1066 Mhz DDR3 memory
- NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
- 160 GB or 250 GB hard drive
- Slot-loading SuperDrive
- 42% smaller packaging

New MacBooks to have Nvidia Nside
If TUAW’s sources are to be believed then the upcoming MacBook’s coming from Apple may just have Nvidia graphic chips in them.

Further confirmation of MacBook and MacBook Pro rumors
We’ve all heard about the refresh of MacBooks and MacBook Pros. The rumors have been flying, and it’s hard to not start believing at least some of them when they all go in the same direction.
As we reported earlier this afternoon, AppleInsider is adding to the rumors with their latest about the laptops. They say (from sources who admittedly don’t have a long track record) that the new laptops are going to share design inspirations from both the MacBook Air and the current iMac. This suggests that the new design will look something like the render above, only with tapered edges.
