app it up
App it Up: Fluttr
Fluttr is a basic arcade action game with the seemingly gentle task of brushing away flowers, bees and such to save a butterfly “… from an explosive end …” But you don’t control the butterfly; it does its own thing, slowly moving up and down the screen as the landscape flows from right to left. Rather, you control the objects that would be the butterfly’s demise. As these objects get in the way, you simply touch them and swipe them away to clear the butterfly’s path.
App it Up: Ping!
Ping! is an iDevice to iDevice messaging application (similar to BlackBerry Messenger on Blackberry smartphones) that makes use of Apple’s Push Notification service, and is said to be a replacement for SMS or other IM clients. Ping! uses data from a 3G/EDGE or WiFi connection rather than SMS messages, and therefore can potentially save users a lot of money.
App it Up: MyPlaylists
MyPlaylists is a very simple, yet very useful utility that allows you to create music playlists right on your iPhone or iPod touch, without the need of a computer. The app also includes an iPod-like interface for listening to your created playlists, and management of the playlists with an interface which is quite similar to that of creating/editing On The Go playlists within the iPod app.
App it Up: Whac-a-Mole
Whac-a-Mole is that game you always pass up at Chuck E. Cheese’s to play Skee Ball or those two actual arcade games in the back corner where the creepy guy hangs out. The game is obviously much more entertaining with the physical feedback of the arcade version, but four game modes and arcade mini-games help to keep things fresh.
App It Up: Rock, Paper, Airplane!
If you’re looking for a fun little game to pass the time, you might want to consider purchasing Rock, Paper, Airplane. There are no amazing graphics or ground-breaking physics engine here, just pure simple fun in a basic gameplay setting that’s sure to kill a few minutes every so often and keep you coming back for more.
App it Up: Skee-Ball
Skee-Ball is that game where you roll balls up a ramp in an attempt to get them into various rings for high point values, but Freeverse is never content to just leave things as they are. So, they’ve added multiple play methods, in-air ball control, various goals to reach (hit each ring in one game, get a certain number of points, get nothing but 20s, etc.), an online leaderboard, and the ability to exchange fake tickets for fake prizes. As a result, Skee-Ball is likely to stay in your game rotation longer than you’d expect.
App it Up: iSink U
The unfortunately named iSink U plays mostly like the classic game of Battleship, in which you place your fleet of ships on a grid and then randomly call out attacks on your enemy. If you hit, fire again in that same row or column. Miss, and try again elsewhere. The first player to sink his opponent’s fleet is the winner. But the gameplay/strategy of iSink U (seriously…if you can’t come up with a good name for your game, hire someone else to do it) goes much deeper.
App it Up: The Deep Pinball
The Deep Pinball is quite possibly the best pinball sim currently available for the iPhone. It has a fun, imaginative playing field that faithfully replicates the kind you can still find in truck stops and bowling alleys across the country. The graphics are attractive, the audio is authentic (although I could do without all the talking), and—most importantly—the gameplay feels natural. It should appeal not only to pinball fans, but also to those looking for a new quick-game option.
App it Up: Pocket First Aid & CPR
Pocket First Aid & CPR provides two main functions. First, it’s a training tool. It includes photos and videos of proper first aid procedures for numerous situations, including CPR, animal bites, choking, etc. The second function is as a database of your health information. You can store information about yourself and others, including blood type, insurance, allergies, emergency contacts, and more.
App It Up: MobileMe iDisk for iPhone
It’s been a long time in the making, but Apple’s MobileMe iDisk iPhone app has finally gone live. With this app, MobileMe users can now easily manage their iDisk, in a multitude of ways. Like all other Apple-developed iPhone apps, the MobileMe iDisk iPhone app sports a very simple and familiar interface. The file hierarchy you’ve already set up in your iDisk folder is displayed, and you can see a full list of every file you have on your iDisk. File names are displayed and are editable, and filesizes are shown directly under the file name.
