iMac supplies dwindling, refresh imminent?
Apple has begun signaling retail outlets of an impending shortage of iMacs, as supposedly, a refresh of the entry-level desktop Mac is imminent. Appleinsider reports that the company is telling retailers they should not expect any new supply of the 21.5-inch, 3.06GHz iMac, as the computer will no longer be in production. Retailers are thus being told to sell whatever iMacs they have in stock and to keep room in their stockrooms, almost assuredly for new iMacs.
Apple updates the iMac
Along with several other updates, Apple gave some lovin’ to the all-in-one machine: the iMac. I believe it’s safe to say these updates have seriously improved the iMac. A few days ago, for serious computing, your best bet was probably the Mac Pro. Now, with up to 16GB of RAM and a 2TB hard drive, the iMac is not to be laughed at. And with a 27-inch widescreen beyond HD display, everything will look amazing.
The new iMac: first look
Following on from the Mac mini, the iMac also received updates today. Though, at first glance, it seems nothing has changed. The updates today all have something in common—the changes are internal. The iMac’s seen some welcome changes, and you now have four options to choose from. Yes, four.
iMac + Sega Dreamcast = iCast?
Have you got an old Macintosh lying around at home, gathering dust in the corner? There wouldn’t happen to be, say, a Dreamcast and monitor lying next to it, would there? If so, you’re in luck! One member of the CGCC.ca forums decided to incorporate his Sega Dreamcast and a 15-inch LCD screen inside his old third generation Apple iMac. Can you guess what he called his creation? The iCast, of course!
Jonathan Ives takes home a MDA award for the iPhone
Apple designer Jonathan Ives has played a huge role in the success of Apple. With his genius mind behind the design of almost every successful Apple product to date (iPod, iPhone, iMac), he has made Apple’s products stand out. The MDA, or Mobile Data Association, agrees. This year, they have given Mr. Ives the Personal Achievement Award for “…his design of the Apple IPhone and its user interface.” According to the hype meter when it comes to the iPhone and its interface, I’d say he deserves this award without a doubt. Look beyond the break to find the official judging comments.
