Rumor: iPod touch to gain Retina Display, dual cameras
Daring Fireball’s very own John Gruber has mentioned a little something in a recent article. Nothing big, just the apparent new features coming to the iPod touch in “a few weeks.” The updates he mentioned are very realistic, and if found to be true later this month, would bring the iPod touch up to spec with the iPhone 4.
Apple Stores to use iPod touch to handle checkouts
One of the strangest things about the Apple Stores, in my opinion, is how they always used Windows based PDAs for customer checkouts not at the register. Sure, Apple didn’t want or really need to make their own system, but it was just a little strange to me. Now that Apple has the iPod Touch—a very mobile device capable of many features—it only seems fitting the company would transfer to this type of platform for checkouts.
iPhone OS 3.1.2 available now
The latest firmware update for the iPhone and iPod touch has today been released from Apple. There are no new features here, just a few bug fixes to keep your iPhone or iPod touch on top form. The update should fix small issues regarding cellular service, video playback and a reported problem where the iPhone does not wake from sleep mode.
iPhone OS 3.1 available today [update]
Steve Jobs has just announced the latest software upgrade available today for the iPhone and iPod touch—iPhone OS 3.1—featuring new options for Genius in the App Store, and also over 30,000 ringtones available for download for just $1.29.
Apple updates iPod touch
Apple has just released a few updates to the ever-popular iPod touch at the music-themed press event in San Francisco. While the device itself has stayed the same, the price has dropped and the memory has expanded.
New iPod Touch to become more like iPhone with camera and microphone?
According to a new story from Wired, Apple is currently producing new iPod Touch models that feature a camera and microphone much like that of its iPhone counterpart. With these two added hardware features, it appears as if there would be little differentiation between the iPhone and iPod Touch in future models. Unless Apple is also preparing a big iPhone hardware change as well, all the iPod Touch would be missing was a cell radio to make calls with.
Fall 2009 to bring larger iPod Touches?
You may be sick of hearing and seeing rumors of an Apple tablet device as they have been around for as long as touch screens have (iTablet, anyone?). However, this rumor is a little bit different. Mike Arrington at TechCrunch is reporting that Apple customers should be prepared to see a 7″ to 9″ screen iPod Touch device sometime in the near future, most likely by fall of 2009. Supposedly, Apple is already talking to OEMs about mass production and some of TechCrunch’s sources have already gotten their hands on prototypes.
Although this device would be interesting to see, I’m not sure if it is all that plausible…

Appletell Review: Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D for iPhone
Although not as hyped as Super Monkey Ball, Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D from the App Store provides just as much fun. Making use of the accelerometer for steering and the touch screen for destroying your enemies, this racing game is great for any iPhone gamer.
Check out my review after the break.
