Apple resets data on iTunes Match

Apple said this move is intended to improve “overall quality and reliability” of the service. As usual, Apple informed developers of the reset of iTunes Match and instructed them to turn off the iTunes Match from all of their devices, including in iOS devices and their computers. Resetting iCloud data is nothing new at Apple, as it has happened a few times during the iOS 5 and iCloud betas around the month of September.

Apple resetting iTunes Match iCloud data on Sept 26th

Friday, Apple started sending out e-mails to developers warning them their stored data on their iCloud libraries housing iTunes Match will be wiped-out on Monday, September 26th at 9AM PDT. This and the iCloud backup data reset on the 22nd have me believing the Apple is adding the finishing touches to the cloud storage system before the final release of the Golden Master (GM) version of iOS 5.

Apple streaming new Red Hot Chili Peppers album before release

It’s a first from Apple as the company has started streaming an entire album that hasn’t yet been released. The album is the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ upcoming “I’m With You.” The album won’t be released until August 30th, although one track from the album (The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie) is available now for purchase and the whole album is available for pre-order.

App of the Day infographic shows interesting numbers

There are all sorts of interesting numbers to be pulled from Apple’s App Store and iPhone platform. However, when you take those numbers and lay them out in a way that is extremely appealing, it’s even better. That’s exactly what App of the Day’s most recent infographic (link below) does. For instance, I could tell you that 33% of all apps are free while only 1% of apps are more than $24.99. I could also tell you that 7,000 of the 50,000 book apps come from one developer.

Apple interested in purchasing Spotify?

Spotify, a digital music service that gives you access to millions of songs, has seen a lot of success in the countries in which it has been able to launch. While one of those countries isn’t the U.S. yet, new rumors are suggesting Apple and Spotify may be in negotiations about a possible acquisition. While the rumor does point out that these talks are probably in the very early stages, just the fact that they are talking is interesting.

iTunes 10.0.1 brings Ping to your own music library

Apple just released the first iTunes 10 update since it was released into the wild. In case you already forgot, iTunes 10 was a big change from previous iTunes versions, mainly because Apple used it to introduce its social music service: Ping. So, it’s not really surprising that the first update to iTunes 10 has some nice features which are Ping-specific. More importantly, iTunes 10.0.1 now works with your own music library.

One million Ping users in just 48 hours

Did we expect anything less than this from Apple? On Friday, Apple issued a press release to brag share the news that in the first 48 hours of iTunes 10 being available, one million users had signed up to use the new music-oriented social network, Ping. According to the press release, around three million people had downloaded iTunes 10, one third of whom decided to sign up to the social network to share their musical tastes.

iTunes 10 first impressions

If you haven’t already downloaded iTunes 10 yet, be sure to check for updates on your system. It definitely brings quite a change to the interface of iTunes (even the icon has changed for the first time in seemingly forever) and I’m sure you’ll need it eventually to get later versions of iOS. That said, whether these updates are for the better remains to be determined. The new interface, for instance, changes the way the sidebar, main lists, and “traffic light” buttons in the upper left look.

iTunes Version 9.2 available via Software Update

If you want to be running the latest and greatest, head on over to iTunes and check for updates. Apple has released iTunes version 9.2 (you know, the version after 9.1) which brings iTunes up to date with some features that will help when iOS and the iPhone 4 become available. this release also apparently helps our (poor) Windows friends out by bringing some nice changes to the MobileMe control panel.

Apple prepping $30/month iTunes TV subscription service?

According to sources for All Things Digital, Apple has been pitching a $30 per month TV subscription service via iTunes in the past weeks. The sources are saying that various TV networks have been approached by Apple about the deal, and if enough support is gained, this could potentially rival the way we’ve accessed our TV through cable for years now.
