Online Apple Store is down – new MacBook Air coming?
Apple’s “Back to the Mac” media event is set to kick off later this morning, and—as expected—the online Apple Store has closed down in anticipation. This is always good news, as it means that whatever Apple unveils today will be available immediately after the event…at least for pre-order, anyway. Rumors have been sparse this time around, but it could be that we’ll be looking a new, smaller MacBook Air today, or perhaps we’ll be able to get our hands on Mac OS X v10.7: Lion.
Apple’s “Back to the Mac” event live blog and rumor roundup
Wednesday, October 20th, Apple will be holding their “Back to the Mac” press event. As usual, the event begins at 10:00 a.m. PDT, 1:00 EDT. Officially, we don’t much about the event. The invitation hints at the next version of Mac OS X—Lion—but the rest is all just rumor and speculation. You can join us right here as we live blog the event. In the meantime, here’s a quick roundup of the rumors we’ve heard so far…
Confirmed: Apple to hold Mac event October 20th
“Back to the Mac,” says Apple in their latest invitation for a press event. Considering the slogan and the fact that the image shows an Apple revealing a lion, it’s pretty safe to guess this event will be about the next version of Mac OS X: Lion. The press event will be held on Wednesday, October 20th. It’ll be nice to see Apple focusing on the Mac again rather than iOS. Regardless of the way mobile is moving, Mac OS X still remains a prominent part of people’s lives.
Rumor: Shrunken 6th gen iPad Nano coming soon?
Question: How do you know an Apple press event is on the horizon? Answer: The rumor mill goes crazy. On top of recent iTV and FaceTime rumors, a new one is pointing towards a 6th generation of the iPod Nano. What could Apple possibly do to that device this time? Make it more nano! The new iPod Nano is rumored to have a 3cm by 3cm screen (the previous was about 3cm by 2.5cm), and, according to the pictures, it appears as if that’s all the device will be.
Rumor: iPod media event scheduled for mid-August?
A “reliable source within Apple” has informed MacMagazine of an iPod press event that is to take place in mid-August. This event would detail the iOS 4 updates for iPad, a potential refresh of the iPod Touch hardware, and perhaps even some information about Apple’s remaining clickwheel iPod lines that have fallen by the wayside in this touch interface era. While the source didn’t give an exact date, we can assume it will most likely be around August 16th or 17th.
Apple to hold press event Friday regarding iPhone 4 antenna
Apple has announced they will hold a press conference this Friday at 10AM PST, for select members of the press. The company has been facing heavy fire for the apparent reception issues stemming from a defect in the design of the iPhone 4′s antenna. Since the problem was discovered, Apple has been relatively mum on the issue, besides an initial statement from Steve Jobs telling users to hold their devices differently, and an announced software patch that will display bars more accurately.
Speculation of other possible Apple announcements January 27th
The January 27th Apple event promises to bring some fascinating and drool-worthy announcements for Apply fanboys world wide, especially when it comes to the rumored iTablet. However, as is common with Steve Jobs, there is anticipation of that famous “one more thing” to put us even further at the edge of our seat. Considering this has been the first Apple event in a while and the hype surrounding it is greater than usual, in my opinion, the chance of “one more thing” is quite likely.
It’s official – Apple event planned for January 27th
It was almost common knowledge that Apple had something planned for the 27th of January but finally, nine days before the date, they have confirmed it by sending out the usual invitations. There’s always a little piece of text on the invitations that, while not necessarily giving a hint, certainly make you think. On the invitation for this event, it reads: “Come see our latest creation.”
Steve Jobs is back!
The lights had only just dimmed as the most exciting part of the press conference happened; Steve Jobs walked onto the stage to huge cheers and applause, looking fit and healthy. Wearing his trademark black turtleneck top and jeans, he expressed his gratitude towards the team at Apple and everyone’s continued support during his health leave.
