Apple lawsuit wrap-up for August 2011

It seems like everyone is suing everyone else, mostly over patents, and it can be hard to keep up with what’s been happening. Starting this month, Appletell will summarize all the twists and turns in the legal dramas so you’ll be informed with what’s been happening. This, month we take a quick look at Lodsys, Software Restore solutions, Openwave Systems, Motorola, Samsung and more.

Apple Stores reveal interactive iPads and iPhone app

As was reported on Appletell, Apple Computer was planning to use iPads as an interactive display instead of paper signs in what was called Apple Store 2.0. News has now come in from Australia and Japan that these rumors were true, along with details of other changes that are designed to make shopping at Apple Stores a better experience.

Is RFID the next feature for iPhone 4?

Apple could already be testing next generation iPhones equipped with RFID (radio frequency identification) capabilities if a less than rock solid rumor is to be trusted (as if rumors could be solid in the first place). What exactly would you do with RFID in your iPhone? A host of things actually, but the most useful for regular users would likely be how it could simplify device discovery and syncing.

Facebook banned at Apple Stores

One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about the Apple Store was that you could walk in and find a fully functional computer with a slew of applications and an internet connection. It gave users a chance to see how the apps worked, and for potential new buyers, a true experience of what the Mac OS was like. Plus, you could kill some time before a movie by checking the social networking sites. But no more!

iPhone 3G shortage a good thing for Apple?

The iPhone 3G is obviously in short supply, but Macworld reports that that’s not necessarily bad for Apple. Over one million iPhones were sold in the first three days. It took the original iPhone 74 days to reach one million sold.

I’m sure many of you have seen the lines that are still adorning the front of Apple Stores across America. This is very different from the original launch of the iPhone, which was available days after launch. Almost all Apple Stores remain void of any iPhone 3G’s in stock, and AT&T isn’t a whole lot better. They are recommending their customers use the direct fulfillment plan, and estimate a wait of about two weeks for an iPhone 3G.

iPhone second day delays

Six and one-half hours in line at the Apple Store, added to the three hours spent waiting in line at at AT&T store, only to be told that they had run out. Is the white, 16 gig iPhone 3G worth it? Totally. The excitement felt by Ralphie upon receipt of his Red Ryder BB gun is comparable.

Although demand will begin to fall off as time goes on, there are a few tips for eager iPhone fans who have yet to get their hands on one of these amazing devices. Check them out after the break.

Apple’s on a hiring spree

It seems like Apple is increasing its global presence (not like it doesn’t already have one). According to The Register, the firm is beginning to recruit staff for its first store located at George Street in Sydney, Australia. If you head over to Apple’s jobs list online, you’ll be able to find positions for Store more »
