Rumor: Apple iTV is in production for release in the second half of 2012

Apple iTV, what it could do, and whether it’s going to become a reality has been on the minds of many after Steve Jobs’ biography came out. In it, Jobs revealed, “I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use. It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud. It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.”

Next-generation Apple TV mentioned in iOS 5 file system

A reference to “AppleTV3,1″, an Apple TV model which does not yet publicly exist (the current generation Apple TV is known as 2,1), has been found within iOS 5′s file system. It’s likely we will see some major internal changes in this upcoming Apple TV release, with a good possibility of the iDevice gaining a dual-core A5 processor just like the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. Should this become reality, we can expect the next-generation Apple TV to support 1080p video playback.

Rumor: iOS 5 will unlock Apple TV’s Bluetooth capabilities

The 2nd generation Apple TV contains a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combination chip, but with disabled Bluetooth functionality. However, evidence has been found in iOS 5 that the newest firmware will activate the currently disabled Bluetooth in the Apple TV, adding the ability to pair the device with a keyboard and possibly other Bluetooth accessories as well. Once Apple activates the Bluetooth support in iOS 5, users will be able to toggle it through the regular settings menu, and will then find a pairing menu similar to those on other iDevices.

Whatever your reason, be sure to check in with us at 1:00 p.m. EDT (10:00 a.m. PDT) for live coverage and in-depth follow up articles.

Apple to live stream tomorrow’s special event

No joke. Apple has announced that they’ll be providing a live video stream of tomorrow’s special event starting at 10:00 AM PDT on Apple.com. But there’s a catch, you’ll need to have an iDevice with iOS 3.0+ or Mac computer running Snow Leopard with Safari to watch. No problem, right? There’s a first time for everything, I suppose.

Apple September media event rumor roundup

On September 1st, Apple will be holding their traditional media event to announce…something to the public. Apple blogs and tech magazines have been speculating since well before the initial date about what this event will entail, so before you join us for our live blog at 1:00 p.m. EDT (10:00 a.m. PDT) Wednesday, we thought we’d catch you up on what you may seeing announced in San Francisco.

Official: Apple event September 1st

If you’ve been waiting for a new FaceTime enabled iPod touch or refreshed AppleTV or possibly even an iTV, your wait may be about to end. Apple has sent out invitations to a special event to happen next week Wednesday, September 1st in San Francisco. Apple’s invites to this special event seem to suggest something involving music

Rumor: Apple to refresh Apple TV, add TV rentals for 99 cents

Rumors have been swirling around a potential Apple TV price drop to $99. In addition, we’ve also read Apple TV will stream content to users, instead of storing content locally. The last major rumor that’s been circulating is that it will, in the future, use a variation of the iOS software. But now, you can add this to that laundry list of rumors: TV show rentals for 99 cents a piece.

WWDC 2010 Keynote live blog

Be sure to join us at 1:00 p.m. ET (10:00 a.m. PT) for live coverage of Steve Jobs’ 2010 WWDC Keynote presentation. The lead up to this one has been a bit more eventful than most, what with all of these iPhone HD images coming out of Vietnam and that entire Gizmodo iPhone brouhaha. Will the announcements be anticlimactic as a result? Does Steve have something special up his sleeve? And what about the good ol’ Macintosh?

Could Apple TV be the “wildcard” on September 9th?

The first thoughts were that Apple would release a tablet device around September. Apple confirmed the September 9th event would be going ahead, and from the invitations, signs pointed to an iPod/music themed event. While it’s still possible that a tablet—or iPad, as it may be called—could still appear at the event, it’s more plausible that we’ll see a refresh to the iPod line, and possibly a long-awaited update to the Apple TV.
