iOSOpenDev to allow the development of unofficial third-party apps in Xcode
A new project entitled iOSOpenDev will allow something that many iOS developers should be excited about: the ability to create unofficial third-party apps, tweaks, themes, etc. right from within Xcode. The project, created by developer Spencer James, is nearing completion and public release, and is almost certain to gain a lot of hype among App Store developers interested in creating something for the jailbreak community.
Untethered jailbreak for iPad 2 details surface
Yesterday, we reported that the developer pod2g demoed on video the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak on an iPhone 4S. The video showed the iPhone fully running the untethered jailbreak without any hiccups while running the Cydia app. Now, the infamous Chronic Dev hackers have posted an image of an iPad 2 with Cydia v1.1.3 running iOS 5.0.1. The hacker Pod2g mentioned in the caption that its full release is only days away.
Corona untethered jailbreak updated with iBooks fix
One (now former) problem with the untethered jailbreak (dubbed “Corona”) on iOS 5.0.1 was incompatibility with iBooks due to a sandboxing issue that prevented jailbreakers from using the app. Now, a new update to the Corona untethered jailbreak by comex has fixed this issue at the kernel level, finally giving jailbreakers access to iBooks just as if they hadn’t jailbroken their iDevice in the first place.
iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak available for download
Following a month of updates from the jailbreaking community, an untethered jailbreak for iOS users has finally been released by the hacker pod2g. The Chronic Dev-Team and iPhone Dev-Team worked together with pod2g to push out the first untethered jailbreak. The release was issued as a package in the Cydia App Store known as “Corona more »
Siri port available for jailbroken iOS devices
When Apple announced Siri integration, many iOS users were disappointed it was only made available for iPhone 4S. With Siri’s capabilities, it’s not surprising developers and hackers from the iPhone jailbreak community are all experimenting with the technology. A number of attempted ports for the older iOS devices were made, but they required a bit more »
An untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 has been enabled
An iOS 5 untethered jailbreak may soon be coming to interested users. At the moment, users who wants to jailbreak their iOS device have to use the tethered jailbreak from redsn0w, which will requires connection from phone to computer wherever users restart their devices. But new hope comes from the famous Chronic Dev-Team member, pod2g, who discovered a bug in the latest iOS 5 software that enabled him to find an untethered jailbreak.
BigBoss updates its SemiTether tweak
Just a few days ago, BigBoss had released its SemiTether package on Cydia, which is basically a tweak that allows iDevice owners running iOS 5 who have performed a tethered jailbreak to be able to reboot and use their iDevice (minus any unofficial third-party apps, tweaks, and themes) without having to boot tethered using a Mac or PC. v0.9.1 offers increased stability along with a bunch of fixes and new features.
The iPhone 4S has officially been jailbroken
MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has recently confirmed via Twitter that the iPhone 4S (and iPad 2) have been jailbroken on iOS 5. Of course, this claim did not come without proof as you can see in the screenshot and the video demonstration past the jump. Unfortunately, this is a very early version of the jailbreak, and an ETA on a release date is not to be expected for a while.
BigBoss releases its SemiTether tool
A new tweak called SemiTether will allow tethered jailbreakers to reboot their iDevice and use most of their stock apps without having to boot tethered. However, this tweak isn’t without its flaws, and users still won’t be able to use any of their jailbreak apps/tweaks, Safari or Mail until they’ve booted tethered again. Rebooting with this tweak installed will also take longer than usual, although I’d say that’s a pretty small price to pay to be able to use your iDevice in the case of an emergency when there is no computer around.
Bring iOS 4 Camera zoom functionality back to iOS 5 with ZoomIsBack!
iOS 5 brought with it a change in how users can zoom when taking a picture within the Camera app. In iOS 4, zooming was accomplished by double tapping the screen and bringing up the zoom bar, but iOS 5 instead implemented pinch to zoom. Some users have been unhappy with this change, and if that’s the case with you, you can bring back the older method of zooming (as long as your iDevice is jailbroken) with developer Itay’s ZoomIsBack! tweak in Cydia.
