Appletell reviews the EyeTV HD DVR for component video

The primary goal of Elgato’s EyeTV HD DVR is simple—to give you Digital Video Recorder (DVR) capabilities on your Mac. It allows for both HD and standard definition recording, it allows you to control your TV with the built in EyeTV software, it lets you add your saved content to you iPhone or iPad for viewing on the go, and it comes with a temporarily free subscription to TV guide online. Is that enough?

Stream live video to your iPhone over 3G with EyeTV

Elgato has announced today that v1.0.2 of their EyeTV app enables streaming of live TV signals over Wi-Fi as well as 3G connections. In other words, using the EyeTV app on your iPhone to watch TV no longer requires a Wi-Fi connection. You’re still going to need some hardware, but it’s likely hardware that fans of Elgato products already have. Users who run EyeTV 3.3.3 and have a compatible TV tuner will be able to watch live TV and previous EyeTV recordings, as well browse the Program Guide and to start recordings on their Macs or schedule them for later.

Appletell reviews Elgato’s EyeTV for iPhone

Elgato’s EyeTV app for iPhone is nearly everything you’d want from a TV app. It shows what you’ve already recorded, it shows you scheduled recordings for the future, it gives you access to the TV Guide data you pay yearly for, it even streams past recordings (provided they’ve been converted for iPhone) over 3G, not just Wifi. And of course, the biggest feature here, it’ll stream live TV over Wifi, not just your home network.

Apple pulls EyeTV app from App Store due to 3G live TV streaming

Apple has pulled Elgato’s EyeTV app for iPhone from the App Store. Why? I like to think it’s because the app was too awesome, but they say the official reason is due to its hidden ability to stream live TV over 3G. Mind you, EyeTV for iPhone doesn’t actually appear to stream live TV over 3G to the casual user. In fact, I was unable to verify this feature myself until…

Appletell reviews Elgato’s Turbo.264 HD

Elgato is well known for their superb EyeTV software and hardware that goes along with it. Recording TV is what they do best, but it’s not all they do; Elgato also makes a great product called the Turbo.264. It’s a USB dongle that eats video for breakfast, and throws up compressed video just as soon as you look away. Seriously though, it kills just about anything else in a speed test.

Appletell reviews EyeTV Hybrid 2009 Edition with EyeTV 3.1

The EyeTV Hybrid is a superb TV tuner that brings DVR functionality to the Mac with incredible video quality. It, together with EyeTV 3.1, allows you to watch and record live TV, set up recording schedules, and export recordings for later viewing and archiving. Elgato recently started manufacturing these units in-house, and it couldn’t have happened at a better time, as it was developed side by side with the latest update to EyeTV, bumping it to 3.1. Let’s take a look at what’s new.

AppleTV…Take 3?

The guys over at TG Daily brought up an interesting point today about the AppleTV. Eventually, it will receive a software update, as most Apple products do. But they think the next software update, Take 3, will also bring a hardware revision. The AppleTV has never been the hit that the iPod was or is, but it’s not a failure either. In fact, sales this past quarter have tripled since a year ago. Tim Cook continues to state that the AppleTV is more of a hobby for Apple than anything else, but it’s becoming quite a big hobby for them.

Black Friday online: Save $50 on the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid

Here’s another reason to just stay home today. Elgato’s is offering the lowest price of the year on their award-winning hybrid TV tuner stick, the EyeTV Hybrid. Via Elgato’s website only, the EyeTV Hybrid is being sold for only $99.95 (regular price $149.95) from today through Sunday night, or while supplies last.

Elgato to release EyeTV 3.0 on Tuesday

Tuesday is going to be a big day for Apple: Not only will Steve be demonstrating some fantastic new products in the keynote; there will be a lot of new software-related releases in the Macworld Expo itself. I’m an EyeTV user – I use it with my Miglia TVMini and it works perfectly. Elgato’s EyeTV more »
