iPhone Appidemic: The Adventures of Tintin – The Game

tintin-thegame-thumb

Hardcore console and handheld gamers like to dismiss the validity of Apple’s iDevices as legitimate gaming consoles. And yet, somehow, despite history and conventional wisdom, our movie tie-in games are generally much better than their console counterparts. The latest example of this is The Adventures of Tintin – The Game.

iOS games on sale through Cyber Monday

This has been an interesting week for Black Friday deals, and app developers got into the spirit of Black Friday this year by bringing their own mega sales. The biggest titles from the biggest game publishers on the iOS platform are still on sale during this weekend. Gameloft, EA, Telltale, Sega, Chair and others are offering their games are great prices, and you’ve still got time to download your favorites before they get back to their regular price.

Gangstar: Miami Vindication for OS X review

Gangstar: Miami Vindication (GMV) is a great idea for a game. In fact, it’s such a good idea that they made it in 2001 as Grand Theft Auto III. But it wouldn’t matter if it was a clone, if it were only a good clone. As it is, GMV is a buggy, jumbled mess. You’ll have conversations with invisible NPCs, drop out of a cut scene to find yourself surrounded by alligators, and end up in gun fights where you have to chase down the thugs who are supposed to be trying to kill you, so you can finish a mission.

Eternal Legacy for OS X review

Although the Mac version of Eternal Legacy is exactly the same thing as its iDevice predecessor as far as plot and action go, the textures have been improved and the animation is much smoother than on its iOS counterpart. It’s unfortunate that Gameloft didn’t attempt to make other alterations, because although it’s still a solid RPG, Eternal Legacy for OS X is held back by some of the iDevice’s limitations.

Starting Today, Gameloft is giving away one game per day until Christmas. That’s right, you don’t even have to pretend to look for money in your post-Black Friday wallet to get some great games on the App Store. All you have to do is follow Gameloft’s Twitter account for their daily announcement for the next 24 days. It’s a Festivus, er, Christmas miracle.

Appletell review – Mystery Mansion Pinball for iPod

Fact: In movies, whenever there’s a battle against the devil, the heroes will be Catholic, and a good portion of the confrontation will take place in a beautiful church or some sort of holy ground with all manner of decorative crosses and windows and a life-size corpus with bleeding eyes.

Another Fact: In video games, it’s okay if that same battle takes place in a mansion over a game of pinball, and your religion is irrelevant. Although, considering this game is constantly telling you, “I am the devil,” I wonder if Catholics aren’t maybe better equipped to hit multiple jackpots?

Regardless, pinball fans may get a kick out of Mystery Mansion Pinball, as may iPod owners looking for a quick way to kill some time with a game that fits quite well within the iPod’s capabilities and control scheme.
