Chuck Norris, Charlie Sheen starring in War Pinball HD
If your general opinion of pinball is that there’s just not enough Charlie Sheen as Chris face or Chuck Norris as Colonel James Braddock torso on the playfield, get ready to have your mind blown. Gameprom, makers of the stellar pinball sims Pinball HD, The Deep Pinball, and numerous others for Mac and iDevices, has announced War Pinball HD, featuring tables based on Platoon, Navy SEALs and Missing in Action.
Appletell reviews Pinball HD for iPad
What we’ve learned from Gameprom’s Pinball HD is that pinball makes much more sense on the iPad than on the iPhone. In fact, it makes much more sense than on the computer. Pinball sims will never duplicate the feel of standing in front of a large metal and wood cabinet, but as far as simulating the gameplay experience, Pinball HD is the closest we’ve come yet.
Gameprom bringing The Pinball to the Mac, in 3D, with iPhone flippers
Apple’s always happy to let you know that when it comes to their iPhone, “There’s an app for that.” I’m always happy to let you know when that app is pinball. Some of the best on the iPhone come from Gameprom, but now they’ve outdone themselves. Their forthcoming app—Pinball Remote—allows you to use your iPhone for flipper and plunger control on the pending Mac versions of their popular iPhone apps.
App it Up: The Deep Pinball
The Deep Pinball is quite possibly the best pinball sim currently available for the iPhone. It has a fun, imaginative playing field that faithfully replicates the kind you can still find in truck stops and bowling alleys across the country. The graphics are attractive, the audio is authentic (although I could do without all the talking), and—most importantly—the gameplay feels natural. It should appeal not only to pinball fans, but also to those looking for a new quick-game option.
App it Up: Wild West Pinball
Although you’ve got a few pinball options on the iPhone, few currently look as good or play as well as Wild West Pinball. The board may be a bit empty of features and goals, and the lack of continuous audio makes it sound as if something’s broken internally, but this is still a solid pinball experience on the iPhone. Plus, it’s now free.
