Why there’s no Google Street View on the iPod touch

As an iPod touch owner, I’m very happy with the new 2.2 software update, if for no other reason than it fixed the persistent problem of not remembering “hidden” wireless stations. But there is one big omission from the update (and I’m talking about neither Flash nor Cut & Paste). I’m talking about Google Street View, the on-the-ground representation of what your driving directions look like in the real world.

GSV was included in the update…for the iPhone. Why the omission from the iPod touch? Was it a conspiracy by Apple to make you upgrade to the iPhone? Wired.com questions the very usefulness of the GSV on the iPod touch…

iPhone updated to Firmware 2.2 right on schedule

Just as rumored, Apple has released the 2.2 firmware update to the iPhone. The update includes all of the rumored features and more.

Firmware 2.2 coming to an iPhone near you on November 21?

iPhone Hellas claims they have reliable information pointing to the scheduled release date for iPhone firmware 2.2.

Once we received the following information from the insider and convey to each subject:

“The iPhone OS v2.2 will be given in circulation on 21 November’08.”

I love Google translate, it adds that special touch that only a machine can.

There are a bunch of features and updates to look forward to in iPhone Firmware 2.2…

What to expect in upcoming iPhone firmware 2.2

As soon as one firmware update is released by Apple, the first thing to do is start waiting for the next one. iPhone 2.1 is great, but no matter what, we’ll always want more. In fact, I can think of one specific feature that’s driving a lot of people crazy…Copy and Paste! Sadly, it’s not on the list, but did you really think it would be? It’s such a simple feature, but you know it’s going to be huge when it finally makes it’s way on to the iPhone. While we’re waiting for that, at least we’ll be treated to some new features in the not too distant future.

Google’s Street View to be included in iPhone firmware 2.2

MacRumors has gotten word that the newest version of the beta for iPhone firmware 2.2 contains more than just bug fixes. The update was marked as “compatibility testing,” and we’re finally finding out just what Apple is testing the compatibility of.

Visit Apple’s Cupertino campus… for free!

Apple may have recently passed Google in market value, but there seems to be no hard feelings between the two companies.

Google has updated their street view with images from Apple campus in Cupertino. I don’t know about you, but I’ve always kind of wanted to see what Apple’s headquarters looks like. This can’t replace the real thing, but for free, it’s fun. You can take a virtual stroll down 1 Infinite Loop. Now, if only I could go to the Apple company store and buy some Apple branded T-Shirts, my tour would be complete!
