Google Voice app pulled due to stability issues
If you were hoping to install the latest version of Google Voice on your iDevice, you’ll unfortunately have to wait a little while as Google addresses issues with the app’s stability. The app was pulled from the App Store after complaints were made regarding a bug in the sign-in code that causes Google Voice to crash upon launch. Only the latest version of Google Voice is affected by this bug, so you shouldn’t run into any issues if you have an older version installed.
Free apps update for December 17th, 2010
This week on the App Store there are a ton more games, but that’s not all. I also found a number of great utilities: more location tracking, a translator from the future and a great news app. And, as always, a decent number of these are limited time freebies. Grab ‘em while they’re free.
Google Voice is finally a native iPhone app
After several months of waiting and being forced to use the Google Voice HTML web app, Google Voice users finally have something to smile about. Google Voice for iPhone is out and is now propagating on the App Store. If you have a Google Voice account you can start enjoying the many features of Google Voice on your iPhone. And what are these features? Cheap rates for international calls, free text messaging to U.S. numbers, voicemail transcription, and the ability to display your GV number as caller ID when making calls.
Apple approves Google Voice applications
Been wanting to use Google Voice on your iPhone and waiting eagerly? Well, the wait is over. This past weekend, Apple allowed GV Mobile + and GV Connect into their App Store, both of which provide Google Voice functionality. GV Connect is selling for only $2.99 and appears to have a pretty decent interface. The same holds true for GV Mobile +. Go and grab them now before Apple changes their mind and pulls them from the store again.
Google Voice finally coming to the App Store?
“Submitted,” says @seankovacs. Why do you care? Sean Kovacs happens to be the developer of the Google Voice mobile application. You know, the one that Apple removed from the App Store and then got into a debate with the FCC about? Sean expects Google Voice to be in the App Store within a week or so. What’s to keep Apple from removing it again, you ask? Apple recently changed the strictness of some of their restrictions for developers submitting apps into their store.
AT&T now allows Skype and Google Voice over cell network
It seems AT&T finally warmed up to the inevitable, and it’s not that surprising. Net neutrality is all the rage right now, and a decision like this makes AT&T more open about its network. They might have been be forced into something similar as a result of the proposed FCC rules about net neutrality. (Net neutrality means that service providers would not be able to block certain applications from use on their networks.)
Apple responds to FCC questions about Google Voice
A while back the general public received word that the FCC wanted to chat with Apple about their issues with having a Google Voice application on the iPhone. Just this week Apple has published their responses to those questions from the FCC. While they are filled with the usual confusing garble, they do offer some more »
FCC wants to talk to Apple about Google Voice app
As everyone and their grandmother knows, Apple recently took down an application from Google that interfaced with their newer Google Voice service. While this has created some crazy uproar on the internet, Apple has remained quiet about the whole fiasco (as usual) when it comes to their App Store. However, I have a feeling that Apple won’t be able to ignore the FCC.
Apple hangs up on Google Voice
As quickly as Google Voice was beginning to pick up some steam—with a public beta version due out in September—it has been effectively shunned from one of the biggest smartphone platforms out there. Apple has removed Sean Kovacs’ GV Mobile and Riverturn’s Voice Central, the excellent Google Voice apps, from the App Store.
