Growl 1.3 now in the Mac App Store

That’s right, now you can get Growl on the Mac App Store. It’s been updated to version 1.3 with new features and a new price tag. Yep, you’re going to have to start paying for Growl, but let’s be honest, it’s worth a lot more than $1.99. Rollup is the biggest new feature; it aggregates all of the notifications you missed while idle and presents them to you in a window. But wait, there’s more.

Why is Growl on my computer? (and why it isn’t Growl’s fault)

Growl is an open-source notification system for OS X. It lets a user control and unify the notifications of any application that supports it, and lots of apps do. It’s one of my favorite system apps because it’s a.) free and b.) dead useful. But there is a problem: it’s been showing up on some systems without the user’s knowledge, and ends up being reinstalled if it’s removed. But it’s not Growl’s fault.
