IK Multimedia has announced their newest addition to their already growing line of iRig adapters, the iRig PRE. It’s a high quality microphone preamp that connects your favorite studio mics to your iOS device. This adapter is the first of its kind, taking a standard XLR connector and plugging it straight into the headphone port of your iOS device. You can expect to see it pop up in early Q2 2012 for $39.99.
CES 2012: iRig MIC Cast iDevice Microphone
Your iDevice might have a pretty decent microphone in it already, but surely you know you can do better. One of your options is IK Multimedia’s newly announced iRig Mic Cast. It’s an ultra-compact voice recording microphone aimed at recording interviews, podcasts, memos and more. Its simple design plugs right into the headphone port on your iDevice, even if there’s a bumper on your iPhone 4/4S. It’s coming soon for $39.99.
CES 2012: iRig STOMP
IK Multimedia is back with a new version of their iRig guitar adapter for iDevices. This time they’ve taken the original iRig interface, added active battery-powered circuitry to reduce feedback and crosstalk and stuffed it all in an attractive aluminum stompbox. The stompbox also has a bypass button to use AmpliTube as an effects processor. There’s also an input gain knob to adjust the signal level precisely. The iRig STOMP will cost you $59.99 when it’s available in early Q2.
CES 2012: iRig MIX and iRig DJ
iPhone and iPad loving DJs and musicians everywhere are going to love this one. IK Multimedia has just announced the first DJ mixer specifically made for iOS devices. The iRig Mix is an ultra compact portable DJ mixer made to mix the stereo audio outputs of your collection of iOS devices. Additionally, it’ll function as an iRig of sorts for plugging a mic or guitar into your iDevice for use with AmpliTube or VocaLive.
VocaLive for iPhone, iPod touch review [updated]
VocaLive bills itself as “The first professional vocal live performing and recording processor for the iPhone.” That’s something to consider, because although VocaLive is fun to use, it’s not meant to just be for fun. It’s very powerful and has a lot of features. As, such you’re going to need a strong knowledge of audio to really get the most out of the app.
iRig Mic review
There’s no shortage of external microphones available for your iPhone, but there is a shortage of handheld mics. Whereas others are content to attach to your iDevice dock port or sit lumbering on your desk, IK Multimedia’s iRig Mic is designed to be held or fit into the mic stand you likely already own. After all, if you’re considering a microphone for your iDevice, I’d hope you already have a reason to be singing into it. Or speaking, really.
