Apple’s iAds no longer serving ads in apps for kids

Mike Zonrek, the developer behind a Pokémon browser app known as Dex, has reported that Apple is removing iAds from apps targeted towards children in the App Store. Zonrek uses a combination of iAds, AdMob and in in-app purchases to make money from his app, which has gained over 500,000 downloads in the App Store. He had noticed that his iAd fill rate fell from 16.5% down to 0, and sent an e-mail to Apple to find out why.

iFart store release: Food Fart Pack

iFart is an application that allows you to choose a fart noise and it’ll play it on your iPod or iPhone. Simple as that. The iFart app is also referred to as the most famous, being featured on TV nationally and international, as well as a slew of other news sites. If you think iFart is only that, it has a bunch of neat features, like a timer so you don’t have to be near you victim. In recent iFart news, a “Food Fart Pack” was released with in-app purchases.

In-app purchases now available in free apps

When iPhone OS 3.0 was first released, Apple stated that only paid apps would be able to take advantage of in-app purchases. This allowed developers to offer, say, the first 10 levels of a game, then to charge a little extra for additional levels. Now, free applications will be able to offer upgrades via in-app purchases, which will hopefully clear the App Store of the hundreds of lite titles of which I am personally not a fan.
