Free apps roundup for April 16th, 2010

It’s that time once again, fellow readers, and I’m pleased to tell you there’s an interesting collection this week. Unfortunately, Jake isn’t able to enjoy the free goodies with you this week, as he is now enjoying some time away on his honeymoon. We’d like to wish Mr. and Mrs. Gaecke well in their new life, but we must return to the free apps. There’s a mixture here of both iPhone and iPad-specific applications for you to enjoy. Exclusive: Intellivision coming to the iPad by April 3rd

“Once you compare, you’ll know.” It was true of Intellivision vs. Atari 30 years ago, and it’ll hopefully be true of the iPad vs. pretty much everything else come April 3rd. So, why not bring the two together in a perfect marriage between retro gaming geekdom and the potential future of portable computing? VH1 agrees, as they’ll be launching Intellivision Lives in the app store in time for the iPad lauch…pending Apple approval, of course.

Retro gaming has been popular for quite some time, and it shows no signs of slowing down. My favorite classic system is the Intellivison, and I’ve tried the various repackaged versions on the Mac, GameCube, online, etc, but found them all to be a bit flat. The developers over at Intellivision Lives keep looking at new distribution methods, however, and they now have their sites set on the iPhone.
